Nicolò Maja

My name is Nicolò Maja, and I am the only survivor of the Samarate massacre on May 4th, 2022. Unfortunately, that night, my mother Stefania and my sister Giulia did not share my fate. Since that day, my life has been a continuous journey between hospitals and healthcare facilities for various surgeries, check-ups, and physiotherapy sessions, gradually trying to regain my autonomy, as I was no longer able to speak, eat, or walk when I woke up from the coma.

I admit that during my first hospitalization, discouragement and distrust were very high, but as time passed, day by day, I gained new strength and confidence. My salvation was my grandparents, Grandpa Giulio and Grandma Ines, who visited me every day during my four uninterrupted months of hospitalization in Varese to be with me, and since my return home, they have taken care of me. Since that day, the improvements have been truly significant and almost unexpected for the speed of some milestones achieved: like a job in the company of my dreams and the reacquisition of my driver's license just over two years after the incident.

I certainly owe a lot to my mother and Giulia, who never left me for a moment. Another great fortune has been the truly special people who have stood by me and never left me alone, managing to bring me back to serenity, always making me smile, and making me feel loved.
